The plan
I have a plan.
Wake up early. Work hard. Eat something that isn't bread. Be a better duck by Friday.
I wrote it all down. Things feel more official once they're on paper.
It was a good plan. It usually is.

How I'm made
I'm held together by magnets.
Head, wings, feet. They're held on with hidden magnets, so sometimes something lets go. It doesn't hurt. It's just embarrassing.
The plan didn't account for this.
I go anyway.

09:14
I lost a wing before lunch.
It started with one quick call. Then three more, and a message that said “sorry, one more thing”.
I looked up and the morning was gone. My wing was lying next to the laptop.
I moved it out of the way. I kept typing.

14:20
My head came off in a meeting.
It rolled onto the desk and stayed there, looking at the ceiling. I answered everything anyway.
Fourteen messages. Two calls. One “can you jump on quickly”.
Nobody noticed. The meeting kept going. So did I.

18:40
I walked past my own wing.
It was still on the office floor. Picking it up would have taken four seconds and a conversation I didn't have in me.
I bought a coffee instead. Coffee helps. Coffee always helps.
I kept moving.

21:10
I said yes to everything.
Friends. Dinner. One more place, just for an hour. Somewhere between the second place and the third, a foot stayed behind on the pavement.
I felt it go. I didn't turn around.
I didn't want to be the one who goes home early. I kept walking.

22:41
Then I stopped.
I got home. Closed the door. Put everything down.
Then I came apart — quietly, in the dark, with nobody asking anything from me.
No calls. No messages. No “one more thing.”
For a little while, I didn't have to keep going.

22:58
Then someone noticed.
They didn't ask what happened. They didn't say I should rest more, or plan better, or talk about it.
They just found my wing, sat down on the edge of the bed, and put it back where it belonged.
It took four seconds. I had carried it all day.

06:58
In the morning I'm whole again.
Nothing got solved overnight. The list is still on the table, with the same four things on it.
Same plan. Same duck. Same Friday somewhere ahead.
But everything is back where it belongs.

I'm fine. I've said that eleven times today.

Nobody claps for the days you just get through.
Morris gets through them anyway.
Meet Morris.
For anyone who's doing their best.
Soft, strange, and held together by hidden magnets.
His head, wings and feet come off — and always find their way back.
